The aim of the League is to provide Junior golfers the opportunity to play competitive and
enjoyable Foursomes match-play golf in the best Spirit of the Game
1. Eligible Players
Boys and Girls, under-18 on January 1st. No player may represent more than one Club in the season.
2. Competition season
The season will run from the pre-season meeting until August 31st, with the Finals Day in September.
3. Match Format
(a) A team of 6, 3 pairs, playing Foursomes Match-play to the ‘R & A’ Rules of Golf. The team winning most 'legs' will be the match winners.
(b) 4 points for an Away Win, 3 points for a Home Win, 2 points for an Away Draw, and 1 point for a Home draw.
(c) Should a team be a player short, that 'leg' of the match will be forfeited.
(d) Should both teams be a player short, the 'leg' will be halved.
(e) Should a team fail to show up for a Match, they will forfeit the match, and the opposing team will be deemed to have won 3 - 0.
(f) Should a team withdraw from the League mid-season, its matches will be regarded as 3 - 0 wins (home or away, as appropriate) for the opposition, regardless of results from matches already played.
4. League Format
(a) The League will consist of 2 Divisions.
(b) The winners of each Division shall be the team with the highest points total or, in the event of a tied points total, the best Match aggregate. Should the teams still be equal, then the Match result between the teams and individual ‘leg’ results, will decide the outcome.
(c) The two Division winners will play-off to decide the League Championship, and the two Division runners-up will compete for the Plate on the League Finals Day.
(d) In the event of the Final being postponed on the scheduled date, if an alternative date cannot be arranged within 2 weeks, the league title will be shared by the two Finalists.
5. Child Welfare/Behaviour
Teams to abide by J4L Child Welfare match-day guidelines. The team managers are responsible for the behaviour of their teams and to ensure Child Protection and Welfare at all times when attending matches, and any liability for safeguarding rests with the Clubs involved and not with the League Secretary. Supporters and/or parents are not permitted to coach any player or to follow a match in such a way as to give the appearance of coaching a player.
6. Courtesy Rounds
No Courtesy rounds are available for this competition.
7. Tees
Wherever possible the respective Men’s and Women’s Forward Competition Tees will be used by the Boys and Girls.
8. Handicaps
(a) Maximum Handicap Index (HI) for Boys and Girls - 20.0. Players with a higher HI can compete but their HI will be 20.0.
(b) All Handicap Indices must be validated. Failure to produce Handicap Index validation will result in the player having to play off 'Scratch'.
(c) The Competition Handicap allowance will be ½ the combined team Course Handicap. Strokes to be taken according to the Men's card unless 2 girls are playing against 2 girls in which case the Ladies Card is used.
9. Team Format
Each team will consist of any combination of Boys and Girls. The team will play in order of combined Handicap Index, with the lowest combined-HI pair starting off. For the League play-off Final only, in the event of a tied match, the top pair from each team will play-off in ‘sudden death’. Team sheets cannot be changed once submitted, other than for injury or illness.
10. Caddies and Buggies
No Caddies or Buggies are allowed.
11. Distance Measuring Devices (DMDs)
DMDs are permitted but must only be used for measuring distance and not wind speed, temperature, or elevation.
12. Mobile Phones
If a player’s mobile phone rings during play, his/her side will lose the hole.
13. Smoking
Smoking is prohibited anywhere on the Course and in the Clubhouse.
14. Dress & Conduct Code
The Dress & Conduct Code of the Match host Club to be adhered to at all times.
15. Post-Match reception
The Match host Club will be expected to provide suitable refreshments after the Match for the Team players and officials.
16. Fixture confirmation
Match fixtures to be arranged as soon as possible after the pre-season meeting with confirmation sent by the Home team to their opponents and to the League Secretary.
The Home J/O to contact their next opponents one-week prior to the match being played in order to confirm the fixture, Tee-time, and Dress Code, with a copy of confirmation sent to the League Secretary.
17. Match Result reporting
(a) The Match result, to be recorded with the opposing J/O and sent by the Home J/O to the League Secretary, preferably by text or e-mail, as soon as possible after the Match.
(b) A League table will be sent regularly to each Club.
